Do you mean "Stack-on"? I have several and they are fine except they are not fire-proof and if someone is really determined to get in they can. I use them to store ammo. On the other hand, they will work for most folks and are fairly inexpensive. You can get them from a number of mail-order places, such as Cabela's, or from Farm and Fleet where I got mine. Don't recall what I paid for them.

I got my safes from Menards. They are in the $200 to $300 price range. They are NOT fireproof, but are heavier steel than the Stack Ons and have built in combination locks with 5 locking lugs which are rather substantial. If you screw these to the floor or wall stud, someone wanting to get your guns will have a bit of a problem.<br />

I have one from Menards ... it works OK, but not as nice (quality) as my Fort Knox safe. I think Fort Knox replaces you safe if someone every break into it (don't think they cover the firearms).<br />

Gander Mtn had a great selection of safe last time I was there ... good for figuring out what you what. I think Costco & Sam's carry safes.

Get the best you can afford, my reasoning: If someone breaks in, they won't steal just 1, they'll get as many as they can get in the time they have. If you have a fire, and your safe is fire rated, you may be able to salvage some of your possessions, as I store more than firearms in my safes. You can also put a rider on you insurance plan to cover your firearms. I think Illinois state law demands that you as the owner secure your firearms also, although to what extent, I don't know. Just remember, something is better than nothing.<br />

you have, the more substantial safe you'll want. This is a moderately priced safe and provides<br />
excellent protection.

You might also look into the NRA-endorsed gun insurance program. It is far less expensive than any rider you can purchase on your homeowner's policy and you can cover all of your guns and accessories. Any rider you may buy from State Farm or someone will have limits and is very expensive. Hope this helps.

Rich and Magic - I do not have to many guns so I think a 15-18 gun safe will be OK.<br />

The biggest concern you shouold have with a safe costing only $400-600 is that it may not protect your firearms from moisture, fire, nor theft. If it is not sturdy, heavy, reinforced, etc., then you are better off spending more. But, like me, there's only so much money to spend on gun stuff..... If you do wind up with a relatively inexpensive safe, do contact the NRA about their endorsed gun insurance program.... <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thumbsup:' />

Lets you break done your collection by those that are strictly wall hangers or heirlooms that you don't use but don't want to part with and those guns that are used on an ongoing basis. So in looking at your collection, if there are a number of guns unfired for over a year they may fall into the cheaper version of insurance (or maybe "I should sell this to buy other toys.").

AS far as they go, stak-on are good products. But in this case, you get what you pay for. Still it's better to have some form of safe rather then none.<br />

My safe, which I doubt dynamite would open, cost plenty, but it's going to still be standing when the house is not.
