EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
We are in the first week of Veto Session for Fall 2013. The big topic is the City of Chicago's push for enhanced penalties for gun possession offenders. While I am generally not opposed to increased penalties for bad guys, the idea the City is proposing would sweep otherwise innocent people who make a simple mistake into prison. What the ideas put forth by the City do show, is the utter contempt the City and Cook County State’s Attorney, Anita Alvarez, has for gun owners and the Second Amendment (click here to see video). I want you to know that the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) will oppose any bill that attacks our Second Amendment rights. Right now, the bill number is SB2265 but other bills could be amended which would provide the same outcome. The House of Representatives are adjourned for a week so we will see what happens in November.

The estimated economic impact of what the City wants to do is catastrophic. If the bill were to be passed as proposed, the increased cost to the Department of Corrections would be $900,000,000 alone. The best way to stop crime in Chicago is to put more policemen on the street. The City doesn't want to spend the money, but it's OK to cost the State of Illinois nearly a billion dollars. It would certainly cost less to put a couple thousand police on the streets of Chicago. The City is afraid to have the highest number of policemen per capita but why shouldn't they be—they have the highest per capita number of drug dealers and gang bangers.
Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) Highlights
Illinois State Rifle Association To Turn Heat Up On Suburban And Small Town Mayors

Bloomberg’s MAIG has made major inroads in Illinois. Check to see if your mayor is on the list of members. Our Illinois Mayors need to be asked about receiving campaign contributions from Mayor Bloomberg, MAIG’s obvious divergence from its stated agenda, and encouraged to withdraw their membership.

We would like to thank Mayor Terry Kernc of Diamond, IL for withdrawing her support of Mayor Bloomberg's anti-gun organization. Residents should contact her office with thanks for this decision to support the rights of firearm owners. Unfortunately other Illinois mayors have signed on to his false promises of reducing crime and campaign monies. These mayors also need to be contacted to explain to them that MAIG's goals have nothing to do with criminals and everything to do with restricting legal firearm ownership.

Remember to be polite and professional. Present them with the facts that MAIG has nothing to do with 'Illegal Guns' and everything to do with making gun ownership illegal.

Please forward on any correspondence you receive regarding this matter to the ISRA.
