[font=Arial, sans-serif]By now you know the latest threat by al-shabaab, a Somali based Islamic terrorist group, has threatened to attack the Mall of America in Minnesota. This is not a new idea for al-shabaab. In September of 2013 this same group attacked the Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi, Kenya. Although statistics are somewhat muddled the casualties at last report are 72 dead and 240 wounded. This makes the Westgate terrorist attack one of the worst ever. Local authorities believe the al-shabaab terrorists were using local Somali citizens' homes as hide-outs prior to the attack. Minnesota has a large Somali population. [/font] <br />
[font=Arial, sans-serif] [/font] <br />
[font=Arial, sans-serif]Despite the terrible losses at the Westgate Mall it could have been much worse. Local armed civilians, a few in the mall and some who gathered outside the mall entered on their own before police set foot in the mall. The civilians suppressed the terrorist fire and prevented the casualties from being much higher. Several hours passed before the police and military would enter the mall. [/font] <br />

[font=Arial, sans-serif]The Director of Homeland Security told us all to be careful when going to the mall - really, how comforting. The lessons learned from the Westgate Mall attack are these: [/font] <br />
[font=Arial, sans-serif] [/font] <br />
[font=Arial, sans-serif]* Armed citizens are going to be the first responders, like it or not. [/font] <br />
[font=Arial, sans-serif] [/font] <br />
[font=Arial, sans-serif]* It takes a while for any police organization to respond. They need to get to the scene and execute a plan. [/font] <br />
[font=Arial, sans-serif] [/font] <br />
[font=Arial, sans-serif]* Uniformed security guards are the first targets. [/font] <br />
[font=Arial, sans-serif] [/font] <br />
[font=Arial, sans-serif]Think about how many "soft targets" there are. Next time you drive somewhere see how many you can identify. You will be astounded. Armed citizens can become hard spots in soft targets. That requires training on your part. [/font] <br />

[font=Arial, sans-serif]In the mean time I never cease to be amazed at the minions who make our foreign policy. They must have all graduated from the Ostrich School of International Relations. Good grief! [/font] <br />

[font=Arial, sans-serif]As you can see we are adding new bills every day to the State House and Senate bills list. One of our more important bills, SB1857 is known as the Due Process Bill. This bill is designed to ensure a fair hearing before the Appeals Board for the concealed carry applicants who were denied a CCL. The deadline for introducing bills in the House is Friday, February 27th. [/font] <br />

[font=Arial, sans-serif]For those interested in Black Powder, the ISRA organizational meeting for the 2015 league will be Sunday, March 1, at the ISRA Range Clubhouse at 9:00a.m. Leagues are designed to be local so if you live near a shooting range or club, ask to join the league; they are great fun and you will learn to shoot better. [/font] <br />
