Attendance at IGOLD 2016 was unfortunately low, no doubt due to the rainy weather. Indirectly most of the ISRA and NRA lobbyists voiced concern that complacency on the part of Illinois gun owners could lead to more restrictive laws succeeding in passing the legislature. They were particularly concerned about a bill that made it out of committee. HB3160:
Amendment 2.
In the new Lethal Violence Order of Protection Act, defines "family member of the respondent" as a
spouse, parent, child, or step-child of the respondent, any other person related by blood or present marriage to the respondent, or a
person who shares a common dwelling with the respondent (rather than as defined in the Illinois Domestic Violence Act of 1986).
Massad Ayoob was the the main guest speaker. He did a "compare and contrast" of incidents similar to and in the same time frame as the Sandy Hook and Colorado Theater Shootings with shootings where an armed citizen stopped a similarly armed nut job before they could kill a lot of people.
We got rained on during the march to the Capitol, and the rally on the foot of the building was very brief this year as some marchers just kept on going to get out of the rain. I managed to get my personal info cards about Illinois non-resident concealed carry permit discrimination to most of the Reps staffers, but had less luck with the senators, as some of their office doors in the Capitol building are unmarked.
