That's a wrap! Thanks for a great season. See you all next year!
We should be shooting 2nd Saturday and 4th Sunday again next year.
Final schedule to be finalized in February.
Illinois SASS State Shoot

New people, new location, new time
Check out the SASS Wire for the information on the proposed 2007 Illinois State Shoot; it's listed under State Championships and there are a few postings on the Wire itself. Might be a tad cooler in May than in July; hope the rains stay away during that time. It'll be interesting.

Me thinks there is more to this than meets the eye. :glare: :unknw:

Yep, there sure is.
For instance--SASS asured Tab that he had untill Sept 1st to file for next years shoot,(he still has the letter SASS sent him on that) then turned around and awarded this championship to a different club one week after EOT, without even so much as a --"Hey, these guys are filing papers >

If not for Tab, there never would have, and still would not be, an Il. State Championship. Yab does ythe hard work, now someone else gets the benifits.

Further--SASS has let it be known that they don't EVER want another SASS Santioned shoot held at Sparta.

Go figure that out? Here, for two years running, and right out of the box, Sparta has held the largest State Matches of the year, Last year the largest ever, and SASS does not want matches held there. Also, this years Ruckus was larger then quite a few regionals.

Does this make sense to you?
Thanks Tab! <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/usabig.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':usabig:' />

Thanks Tex! <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/usabig.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':usabig:' />

And thanks to all who worked so hard to do what needed to be done! <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/usabig.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':usabig:' />
Thanks

But

YA"ALL AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET!
I agree something isn't Kosher about this move. I think the new club had some inside infromation in regard to the State shoot and took advantage of it.

I agree with DD Tab and Harlot and most naturally yourself put a lot of hard work and money into making it a sucessful shoot.

You can't fight the elements or the fact that a big organization was coming in right after us. The people of Sparta the first year were friendly and most accomodating. It sure will be a shame that they won't benefit from seeing us again for a state shoot.

I hope the new organization will have the same fervor and dedication that you folks had to try make it a shoot to be remembered.

Time will only tell!!!!!
Yes it does make sense to me..............Someone or Some group must have screwed something up. Also they must have done Something to anger the folks at SASS...........sheesh do da math Tex <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Here is what I do know to be factual that has occurred over the past 150 days:

We have in our hands a letter from SASS dated June 9, 2006 giving us until September 1, 2006 to apply for the 2007 match. We had waited until the 2006 Ruckus to meet with the Monmouth/Milan group so that we could discuss with them in person their plans for their Charity Shoot, True Grit, and the Fall Roundup. We were in active discussions with them to see if we could move to one of those alternative dates either in May or September. Therefore, thinking we had until 9/1/06 we had not sent in our paperwork yet to apply for the 2007 match.

However, as told to a Territorial Governor of a nearby club by SASS HQ on 8/22/06, this new group actually applied for the match prior to May 1, 2006 which was nearly three months BEFORE this years Ruckus was held. That should dispel the idea the match was changed because of any real or perceived problems with the 2006 match.

There has been a persistent rumor that SASS was taking the match away from Taquila Tab. SASS didnt take the match away from him as much as they took the match away from the Prairie State Cowboy Action Shooters Association which is comprised of 265 members from Illinois, Missouri, and Wisconsin. Tab was more than able, willing, and wanting to hand the reins over to someone else to run the match. His goal has always been to get Illinois cowboy shooters into a world-class facility and let someone else take over from there. After spending countless hours on this match (not including 50 vacation days over the past three years) he was way past ready to just relax and shoot in the next match.

As to the facility not being cowboy friendly, a 1,600+ acre facility with 12 shooting bays each measuring 65x 120 with 10 high side berms; a 35 high back berm located on flat, level ground; coupled with a Vendors Row providing both water and electricity for them; a facility providing 1,000 paved camping sites with water, sewer, and electricity; a 20-room bath house complete with sinks, stools, and showers; 5,000 paved and striped parking spaces; an on-site full-service restaurant and bar located smack-dab in the middle of the U.S. in a town where the Mayor rode on the garbage truck emptying our waste and the local newspaper published 11,000 copies of our Shooters Books for every subscriber in a 4-county area is not cowboy friendly? How is that possible?

As to putting SASS back into the Illinois State Championship, is that the same State Championship that NEVER EXISTED until we created it three years ago? How do you put something back into what never existed? Be that as it may, what wasnt SASS about the match? We conducted the match under SASS rules, used SASS recommended size targets at SASS recommended minimum distances, we awarded the SASS provided winners belt buckles and their SASS provided entries into the SASS Regional. So just exactly what was missing?

So in closing, let us say thank you to all the 300+ SASS members from the 22 different states that supported us and allowed us to be the largest State Championship in the country for each of the past two years. We want to thank the many vendors and sponsors that allowed our match to become a reality. We also would like to express a special note of gratitude to the town people of Sparta which welcomed us into their homes and hearts.
Now, since you've see what Rich placed on our wire, from the SASS wire

YOU DO THE MATH!

Still, like I said,

Ya'all Ain't seen nothing yet

AND

I'll see ya in Sparta again, and this match will be something no SASS member has ever seen afor!

Gur-un-teed!
First of all I would like to say that SASS is very proud of the fact that the Macoupin County Regulators have stepped up to the plate and will be holding the SASS Illinois State Championship in May of 2007. No other club in Illinois had applied for the SASS State Championship until the Macoupin County Regulators did the first of August. It is unfortunate that the letter mailed to the Prairie State Cowboy Action Shooting Association had a respond to deadline of September 1st, this was a mistake. The deadline for applying for a SASS State Championship is May 1st and after that date the club that applies first is given priority provided they meet all the qualifications. The notion SASS had pulled this championship is absurd. It has always been a SASS Policy that no one club “owns” the SASS State Championship. Any club may apply for a championship and in the event of multiple applications prior to the deadline the state Territorial Governors will decide which club will hold the match.

In March of this year we heard rumors Tequila Tab and others involved with the SASS Illinois State Championship were unhappy with SASS. Knowing Tab was the match director of the SASS Illinois State Championship the SASS board of directors was concerned enough to contact him. On March 16th the SASS board of directors had a conference call with Tab to find out if there was a problem. What we heard was an obstinate person who snubbed SASS’ every effort. He, also, indicated he had no interest in continuing as a SASS State Championship after this year. He made it very clear he did not need SASS’ endorsement to continue in his endeavors. The board had no reason to doubt his words when at this years SASS Illinois State Championship there was no signage or acknowledgement of SASS and even the word “SASS” was left off the trophies.
We are saddened such a facility as the World Shooting & Recreation Complex at Sparta, Illinois may not a have a SASS sanctioned match next year. The shooting complex is a wonderful facility and it is something Illinois’ shooters should be proud of. But as you can see in the light of all that has transpired the SASS Illinois State Champion had to be moved.
