Hey. Hope y'all are dug out of that white blanket that buried us yesterday. I've been reading everything I can on this sport and am curious if anyone has any recomended dvd's. I was looking at some at the following link:<br />

All of them can be ordered dvd or vhs. I was kinda thinkin' about ordering "Speed & Accuracy - Cowboy Action Style". Please let me know of any recommendations or even ones to stay away from if you've seen it. Thanks all.

    I've not seen any of the videos, but having said that, I think you'll find that there are a number of individuals on the posse who will be more than happy to help out with suggestions and/or instruction. The best teacher is in the doing and after you get a couple of shoots under your belt you'll have a better idea of what this is about and where you might need to look first for working on improving things. The first thing you'll notice is the largest difference between this and other shooting disciplines is the willingness of everyone to help each other improve. Yes we have our "Gamers," but most will help each other with the cost of being beat by those they help. The primary goal is to safely have FUN, first, middle and last.<br />

    If you see any of the RO1 & RO2 (range officer) classes being offered, I would definitely sign up for those. Also after the season starts you'll see some of the "shooting schools" being offered at the main (State & Regional level) matches. These are also good. They ain't cheap (in my opinion), but most come away feeling that with what they have learned and how they now might improve their skills, it was worth it. <br />

    If your e-mail address is listed in your member profile I'll send you the printed materials for the RO classes. Even if you don't attend the classes, it can't hurt to help you get an overview of how we are suppose to do things. But really the only requirement is to show up at the shoots and you'll find yourself being brought along at whatever speed you're comfortable with.

    The Padre offers sage advice. I know it's hard to let the winter pass without doing something to get ready for the shooting season. But I think it would be helpful if you would read through the SASS Shooter's Handbook and the ROI manual - both available here. . This will give you an idea of how we do things and don't hesitate to ask questions here. We are all very ready and willing to help out wherever we can.<br />

    In the spring, we'll be looking for help getting the range, targets, etc. ready for our first match. Come on out, look things over and lend a lend if you can (most of us are of the "experienced" age and have to go easy with the physical labor). Once the range is open, we are always happy to give a little "hands-on" instruction off at an unused stage. Once you shoot a match, you'll see how easy and fun it can be.<br />
