That's a wrap! Thanks for a great season. See you all next year!

We should be shooting 2nd Saturday and 4th Sunday again next year.

Final schedule to be finalized in February.

Where's the beef?

Where can you get good steaks?
Howdy,

Is there anywhere around Antioch/Fox Lake that has real GOOD beef? I would like to get some good steaks. I haven't found a good piece of steak since I moved here 18 years ago. The junk that is available in supermarkets is full of grisle and fat. I don't really want to buy a large quantity of meat, just a few steaks now and then for Tam and I.
HELP.
The best place that I have found is quite a ways from you, but may well be worth the drive.

Headons Old Tyme Market, Creston, Illinois.

Creston is about 10 miles west of DeKalb on route 38. Or about 5 miles east of Route 39 on route 38.

It would be about an Hour and a Half drive for you to Creston.
You ain't gonna believe this, but in what has been over ten years of buying meat from Sam's Club we've only had two instances where it didn't measure up. They used to have a policy where they would refund double your money if you weren't satisfied. Don't know if they still do that because we only took a cut of meat back once and they did refund double and that was years ago.

Don't know where you live but we also on occasion will buy from a local butcher, but that ain't cheap. If you don't mind the cost you can usually find a local butcher that can get it done. When you tell them "you are not concerned with the cost, you want a good cut of beef," they in my experience will produce the good stuff. The Sam's Club that we've been buying the meat from is in Crystal Lake.

I think there is a meat locker in Grayslake that would be close to you. Just south of 137 on Rt.83, on the west side of the road right after you cross the RR tracks. If they don't sell meat there I would think they should be able to tell you where to go to get a good cut of beef. There was also a smoke house over by Mundelien so you might try the yellow pages under "smoke houses."

Let me know what you find and you could also check with Dasturdley Dan as he lives in Antioch or Maybe Longtooth.

 • Any time you're near the Good Guys Posse range, go to Sorgs. It's on hwy 14, 3 or 4 miles from Darien. They do thier own butchering right there. Fresh off the cow.
 • Thanks Guys.

JJ - actually, we have gotten the best meat that we have found from Sams. I will stop by the Meat Packer that you mentioned in Grayslake.

Harry - Next time I am north of here, I'll try to find Sorg's and see what they have.

WR - If these don't work out, Tam and I will plan a road trip to Creston.

DD - it is SWMBO (she who must be obeyed) that is unhappy with the meat that we have been able to find.

Thanks
• North end of Antioch- Antioch Packing House on 83 just south side of tracks. Professional butcher shop with knowledgeable butchers but don't expect it to be cheap. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/good.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':good:' />
 • Thanks Dan,

That is the closest. We will give them a try.
