That's a wrap! Thanks for a great season. See you all next year!

We should be shooting 2nd Saturday and 4th Sunday again next year.

Final schedule to be finalized in February.

Reloading Components

<div class="IPBDescription">"Sticker Shock"</div>One of my xmas presents was a gift card from Bass Pro. Thought I might as well go over today and burn it up. Nothing that I really needed, but thought that I would pick up a thousand shotgun primers. <br />
<br />
Choke! Choke! Hack & Choke! $39.95 for a thousand primers. Told them I didn't want the solid gold ones, just the plain old shotgun primers. They told me to go look at the prices on the lead shot and powder if I thought that that was bad. <br />
<br />
I ain't gonna even go into the prices on the powder, shot and other stuff because as I sit here remembering the numbers my little brain tells me that I couldn't be remembering things correctly. The numbers are totally insane. It's like I'm remembering a bad dream. <br />
<br />
Well I thought that as long as I drove all the way over there and I needed to use up the card I'd buy the primers anyway. I got way lucky because apparently they haven't updated the computer with the price increase. The price I was charged for the primers at the front of the store was $23.99 after some kind of minor discount from $24.90 (Big sale today and the place was wall to wall with people). Must be the old regular price and I almost went back and got another brick of primers before they found their mistake. <br />
<br />
So if anybody is getting low on reloading stuff, you better get out there and get it quick at Dam Rd. Mike's or the gun shows because it has gone totally nuts.<br />
<br />
If I'm remembering correctly the lead was thirty some dollars for a bag and sixty five for a four pound keg of powder. Need I say more? They had the Winchester feather lites for 5.49 a box and at that price is ain't hardly worth reloading.

    I hate to say it but I'm afraid it's already to late. A lot of those prices did that just after the 1st of the year. A bag of shot around here is already $27.00 a bag PLUS tax. It's all gone just crazy. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thumbdown:' />
  • <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thumbdown:' /> I was in Sportsman's Warehouse in New Berlin yesterday; counter man told me that Winchester and Federal<br />
    <br />
    have told them that most of their componet production will be for the military for the next 18 months.
  • jeweler jimjeweler jim Posse Whipping Boy
    Ah yes, the old "we're devoting all the production to military contracts." Heard that one before and it gives them a wonderful excuse to raise the prices. The old companies have taught them well. Enforced short supply.

    Well Dev, I ain't talking about fifty years ago and without the gift card I wouldn't have been at Bass Pro. But if memory serves me, the last time I bought some small pistol primers at a gun show this year it was about seventeen a thousand and two years before that it was about fifteen a thousand. Yeah I know that shotgun is more expensive, but forty dollars a thousand when they were twenty five or less a few months ago? Come on! <br />
    <br />
    Like I said, most of this is hype and BS as to why they have to increase the numbers the way they are doing now. A sixty percent increase in a few months? By the way I do have some of the primers from fifty years ago in the little wooden trays (large rifle).<br />
    <br />
    As to buying mail order (internet), the Hazmat fees usually start about twenty dollars additional per order and go up from there, so that pretty much eats up any savings of going to Midway or one of the other supply houses.<br />
    <br />
    So it's gun shows or one of the large chain stores like Gander or Sportsman's Warehouse. That and continued whining and bit--ing by your personal malcontent, little ole me.
  • YOUR RIGHT FATHER JIM, I WANTED TO GET STARTED RELOADING SHOTGUN AND PISTOL, BUT I FOUND THE PRICE ON RELOADING 12 GA. SHELLS WAS RIDICULOUS. GANDER WAS STILL AT $5.49 A BOX FOR WINCHESTER FEATHER LITES ,THEY ALSO GIVE YOU 10% OFF IF YOU OPEN UP A CHARGE ACCOUNT.I DONT KNOW WHAT THEIR INTEREST RATE WAS JUST OPENED IT AS TO GET THE DISCOUNT.PICKED UP THERE LAST SEVEN CASES AT $4.94 A BOX THEN PAYED IT OFF .AND THAT AIN'T HALF BAD. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cowboy1.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cowboy1:' />

    You are a wise man my son. At current prices it's probably around four to four fifty a box to reload. As my time has no value, it might be worth my reloading for fifty cents savings. You know the vow of poverty and all.

    Guys, I buy most all of my powder, primers, lead bullets, etc. from one or two of our shooting compadres; they charge just enough to cover shipping/handling charges and enough to make another big purchase. Made use of the Gander charge card myself but the next time I'm going to buy my cases of shotshells from them too; they are really reasonable. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/innocent.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':innocent:' />

    Well, I just looked at Midway and found IMR's Trail Boss 5 lb can (that's the same size as 8 lb can of regular powder) for $85. If you buy two, it costs you $190 plus shipping, which isn't much (I added the $20 HAZMaT fee that Midway charges). There is a limit to how much powder Midway will ship in one batch, but I suspect one could buy a fair number as a group buy and share with others, making the cost less than $100 for a large can. Seeing as I PREpaid Gat Guns $140 for a similar can of Titegroup (granted 8 lbs, but it only costs $106 at Midway + the $20 HAZMAT), it ain't a bad price. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rolleyes:' />

    I found a 5lb can for $76.95 at a place just outside of Madison. Will take a trip up there as it's only an hour drive. Don't know how much they will sell in one trip. But I will ask in case anyone is interested in the future.

    Trail Boss is designed specifically for low velocity lead bullet loads suitable for Cowboy Action shooting. It is primarily a pistol powder, but has some application in rifle. It is based on a whole new technology which allows very high loading density, good flow through powder measures, stability in severe temperature variation and most importantly, additional safety to the handloader.
  • 32 miles from where I work. I got directions from yahoo maps. Because of their store hours (9 to 5), it maybe a Saturday thing. <br />
