    Safety factors to be considered. I've shot individual stages where that type of shooting was a requirement (rifleman-type shooting too---no higher than the gunbelt) but, hitting targets would require calculators to total up all of the misses from an entire match worth of shooting.<br />
    A lot of people have enough problems shooting the "normal" way much less introducing this type of shooting. I would enjoy it, you would and a few others but, realistically, there's an experience factor needed that a lot of folks don't have.<br />
    I'm not trying to sound like a know-it-all but you would really have to give it some thought and then think about the safety factor. :o
  • Whoa there Jailbird,i'm soposed to be on the side of law and order,but i have to admit ,it does sound interesting!!! <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/gunfighter.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':gunfighter:' />

    I think if a person of substantial experience decided that he wanted to shoot in this manner, and could do it safely, it could be done at any match with the RO's or MD's authorization. But, if the category was opened up to any and all shooters, or called for on a particular stage, I think it would be a problem. It wasn't too long ago that we gunfighters had to display a certain amount of proficiency before we were allowed to compete in that category. <br />
    <br />
    However, I think it would be fun to do. Maybe at a side match or one that we could hold on an off day just to see if it could fly. <br />

    I'd get very nervous if someone tried it as a newer shooter. :o <br />
    <br />
    On the other hand, experienced shooters who wouldn't put one over the berm or into the next stage would be fine. I've shot stages from the hip myself on occasion and it's fun. At Kocheese Kanyon, I don't think it would be a good idea as our berms are relatively low. Beliot or Bristol probably would be fine. But that would be up to the "powers that be".<br />

    Why am I not surprized that an ole "Outlaw" like yourself would find this intersting? LOL<br />
    <br />
    I find myself in Denny's camp on this one. Though it san be fun, there is safety to be concidered.The offering of this, as a catigory, might intice some to try it who should not.<br />
    New shooters, or possible some old shooters as well, might not have what is needed to shoot like this safely. Also, with the toggle link rifles (66's and 73's) having that floating firing pin, a jam up, rifle held at waist level, that fires out of battery has a strong potential for injury. Not only to the shooter, but to all around them.<br />
    <br />
    Now, I have shoot this way before on a stage or two, but just for fun. Basically, anyone can do that now as long as they can do it safely. Even when I have done it, I did not try that with my 66, knowing the danger involved. For now, it might be best to just leave this alone till SASS has collected more data from which to make an informed decission.
  • One negative thought toward the class might include the height of the berms we are now dealing with. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thumbdown:' />
  • <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/gunfighter.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':gunfighter:' /> Bird, you have seen me shoot! Why, I would be lucky to not get shot in the hip! But it would be fun to <br />
    <br />
    watch some of our experienced shooters take a whack at this. I remember seeing Magoo shoot all 14 shotgun shells <br />
    <br />
    (Yep, the stage called for a bunch of shotgun shells) from the hip because his shoulder was ailing him. He hit all the targets<br />
    <br />
    plus a popper too.

    Well I guess this is where I get in trouble. <br />
    <br />
    I recall being at one of the Posse Member's "home range" and watching a number of our posse members shooting from the hip. Hitting the targets most times and I was impressed. <br />
    <br />
    Personally I didn't have the courage to give it a try. What's the line? "You have to know your limitations."<br />
    <br />
    Where and when did this take place? It just now escaped my memory.
  • Well now if i remember right i did all my shooting from the hip.As a matter of fact every time i got a new gun,i'd be out banging away.And belive me i got a lot of new guns back then.Of course i had to be in before dark,dang i have to go now,i hear my mother calling,see ya <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/gunfighter.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':gunfighter:' />
