Dang Huck, you got me excited for a minute. I thought you were going to switch to a side by side.
SK ;)
  • Not for now SK, only time I use it is when I shoot Frontersman with the cap n ball guns.
I let Jerico Jones use my tricked out Stoeger at the Illinois state shoot and he would like one setup like mine and asked if I would keep an eye out for one to set up.
If anyone is interested I'd be happy to do an action job and funnel and polish the chambers, install a hold open detent, recoil pad, mercury recoil suppressor, big bead and whatever one wants to your Bounty Hunter or Stoeger Etc. A bunch of pards have em like this ...like Dasterdly Dan, Big Swede, Deadwood Shorty, Two shots Short, and more, I fix and slick `97s too. see ya, Huck

Huck, I didn't think recoil pads were used in the old west........ Or recoil suppressors........ Reading the "Cowboy Chronicle" it sounds like there is a major movement to either make a special category for or not allow all of the slicked up/race guns. Just an observation.
  • Muddy Gap Shootist, As per what Tex, SASS #4 said in the last fewChronicles, that there has been no trouble with any guns that were tuned up, Polished parts, changing springs, recoil pads have always been ok,some just cover them with a leather but wrap and adding a hunk of metal or shot in your gun stock to soften recoil never was a proublem. Polishing and champhering chambers is polishing. I think your thinking of things like adding roller bearings on parts that never had them in the original guns or welding up a hammer to move the original location of the full cock notch and hand pivot hole in order to take half the cocking travel out of a pistol. Where were at now with the short stroke links is as far as one can go physicaly to the stock style parts without cutting-welding,anyways. There is only one custom smith now cuting the innerportion of the hand lever off and with a different length and angle welding it in and changing angles of the link& lift arm and bolt he can make it a stroke almost half of a current short stroked `66 or `73. So Jerry, where does it all end is the question. One of Bill Rugers first projects was to take a lever rifle and make it a semi auto.
If ya need your gun fixed, tuned up or just made slick as waggon wheel grease, give me a call or e-mule me pard.
Huck
PS hows those whisper springs doin in your rifle.

Howdy, Huck. Thanks for all of the clarification. Seems really confusing doesn't it? I appreciate your sharing your expertise as I am still kinda new to CAS. Based on what I read in the "Chronicle," it just seems that other shooting sports have gone to the wayside or lost their membership because the shooter with the most money became the winner due to having race guns take over the sport. Don't know if that is an accurate summation or not but that seems to be the jist of the articles. I would just hate to see SASS go backwards because of allowing non-cowboy/non 1860-1890 refinements to our weapons. Anywho, 'nough said. Sure am looking forward to shooting with you again this spring, pard. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
  • Yes I too would hate to see this game be ruled by Technocash players. I have a simple solution IMHO...... but we will see what the owners of this game deside to do soon.
By the way...anyone have a Stoeger 12ga sxs they want to part with????
