That's a wrap! Thanks for a great season. See you all next year!

We should be shooting 2nd Saturday and 4th Sunday again next year.

Final schedule to be finalized in February.

SASS Scholarships

Attention letter writers...
It's that time of year again. For any of the posse who know and wish to support some of our posse college students I would ask you to compose something and send it along.

If it gets in the mail by the middle of February to Dice or myself it should be in on time. The ones that I'm aware of are obviously my two and also this year "Pumpkin," (Dice's step daughter).

Starting with Pumpkin SASS #45033 aka Nicole Barrington - I have included below three paragraphs out of the letter I wrote. I did not include the fact that she has been envolved with other community services such as "Coats for Kids" and with her strong spanish skills (four years in H.S.) she acted as a translator to help with the distribution. So some of you other letter writers could comment on that or include it in your letters. Hopefully Dice will be posting something more on this forum as far as other possible further info.

"She wants to further her education and pursue a medical degree which speaks to her abilities academically and her work ethic. This is exampled by the fact that she has a 4.0 GPA and has missed less than one weeks time during her entire grade and high school career. Beyond her academics and being inducted into the National Honors Society in her junior year, she has been heavily involved with the American Cancer Society from the local to the national level. Pages could be filled with the background on the above mentioned areas and she has still found time for cowboy shooting.

Cowboy shooting is a family affair for Pumpkin and perhaps watching her mother (Dolly Dice SASS # 42619) help run our shoots and feed the masses lunch has set the example that she follows. I think that her step dad (Pair-A-Dice Regulator # 5966 with many other honors to his name) has also strongly influenced her by getting her started in 2002 and certainly had something to do with the fact that she took the WI State Junior Championship in 2005.

Its hard to cover all the bases in a one page letter, but if being committed and setting a fine example in all the areas of school, community and cowboy shooting gives any recommendation, she should be given the nod for financial help to further her education. We need to give people like her every opportunity to excel and lead their generation and continue to set the example she has to this point."

Below is what I recently got from my daughter for possible inclusion in her letters.

Extracurricular activities, honors, and organizations.

List of High School and College Activities I am involved in or was involved in:
1) National Honors Society (Junior and Senior Year)
2) On Honor or High Honors every Quarter
3) Cary-Grove Girls Basketball Team
4) Cary-Grove Girls Track Team
5) I have been on the girls basketball team and the girls track and field team since my freshman year.
6) Perfect Attendance in my senior year of high school
7) Hall Council at Bradley University I was the historian. I helped set up events and made the halls scrapbook.
8) Intramural Basketball and Volleyball at Bradley. I was the captain of my intramural basketball team and both teams were the champions.
9) Intramural Basketball Augustana College co-captain.

List of outside Activities:
1) I was involved in National Honor Society and volunteer at many different places including Crystal Pines Nursing Home, in Crystal Lake, IL. I also helped out a great deal when my grandmother stayed there. In total I have been volunteering for almost 4 to 5 years. I set up games and help the elderly play games such as bingo and arts and crafts. I walk around with some of the elderly that live there and let them share stories with me from when they were kids. I walk around and help anyone that asks for help. I visited for approximately 5 hours each day during the summer of 2000 and 2001 when my grandma lived there. Even though she passed away, I still go and volunteer for about 4-5 hours a week. Now in college I go there during the summer in between my two jobs.

2) While I was at Bradley University in Peoria, IL I helped with Dance Marathon, which raised money for the Childrens Hospital. I also was involved with Habitat for Humanity. One really exciting time was when I put siding up on the house; I had never got to experience such a thing before. I also got to help build a single mom and her daughter a home, it was one of the most amazing feelings I have ever experienced.

3) I now attend Augustana College in Rock Island, IL and volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. I love to see the happy, smiling faces of the families we help.

Please send whatever letters to me and I will forward them to her at her school.
Perhaps being on the H.S. varsity basketball team is no big deal until you remember she is 4' 10" tall. And as most of you will remember they were both very much in attendance with the building of the first range. The last year they're shooting participation has dropped off because they've had to chase the money for they college expenses as I can attest to by the fact that I co-signed a couple of LARGE loans for them this last month.
I am currently in a 3:4 program with Augustana College. I will be leaving Augustana my Junior year and going on to graduate school. I plan on attending Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago (ICO).

I suppose everyone can vouch on my membership in SASS.

I hope I did not leave anything out.
They both joined SASS in March 2003 and were given scholarships for the calendar year 2006 - 2007, but did not get it this last year. Augustana's tuition is now at a little over $34,000.00 a year for which they have both paid all their own expenses to this point and that's why I just co-signed the loans mentioned above. Thankfully, Jason is on track to stay on a three year graduation program (if he maintains his high grade point). Studies, Crew and work in that order. I realize that some might not consider "Crew" a sport, but I have to admit (not in front of him) that you have to be and maintain yourself in pretty good shape to compete.

Thanks again in advance for whatever any of you can put together for them in any letters you might write. If you want to send as an attachment to a personal message in Microsoft Word I suppose that will work also. Again, anything you send in the mail to me by 2/15/08 should be forwarded to them in time. The same timing would also aply to Nicole's letters I suppose.
