That's a wrap! Thanks for a great season. See you all next year!

We should be shooting 2nd Saturday and 4th Sunday again next year.

Final schedule to be finalized in February.

How many are affected?

dddd Gnome, gnome on the range!
In addition to voicing your opinion in the poll on the new proposed modifications rules, I'd like to hear from you if these new rules would affect the equipment you are now using. Just post it below.<br />
<br />
I measured my '73 rifle which has a "mild" short stroke kit from Floyd and found it to be just barely legal under the new rules by less than 1/8" (whew!). I personally don't have any other equipment that would be affected if these rules go into effect. But I know that many of you do. <br />
<br />
I'd like to be able to tell SASS how many of our shooters would be negatively impacted by this proposal and would have to spend more money to stay legal, so please let me know.

    I would vote "No" to the proposals.<br />
    <br />
    I feel that they are based on "tunnel-vision" and a lack of understanding about development of guns; nothing like an "arms race" is going to happen here.<br />
    <br />
    I have a "Lightning Rod" that will be coming out of my '73 so that it is "legal".<br />
    <br />
    Just my own 2 cents.

    I hope you indicated this in the poll I posted. I think it's only fair to folks to have these votes all in the same place.<br />

    I too part in the pool just now. Didn't see it earlier. Thanks again D.D., for making it easier for folks to have their say; if only all the members used this web site they sure would be a more well-informed or, at least, more aware group.

  • I would also say no to the changes. My new rifle is still in the shop being modified. Besides it just make a better rifle it dosn't mean I'll shot it any better.

    I vote yes on the changes. Anything that will keep the sport truly old west I'm all for.
  • My pistols are OK, as are my shotguns. I can't measure my '73 or '66 as they are at Floyd's. He is putting a short stroke into the '66 and I have no idea what it will measure. My '73 was orriginally done by Cody Conagher, then re-done by Floyde, again, no idea what it measures. My '92 isn't short stroked, only slicked up a bit. None of the other rules apply to modifications that I have made.<br />

    MG, this sport never was truly old west; there's an organization known at NCOWS for that. CAS is a fantasy sport shot for the most part with replicas, but, that's what opinions are for; it would be pretty boring if we all agreed on everything.
  • Hello All,<br />
    I would vote YES -- pass it and tweak it as needed. Other then some limited types of pump shotguns and the Lightning Rod --- I really do not see it as affecting most of us. As I have posted many times on the SASS Wire
    YES,I DO shoot a short stroke rifle and YES, my Spur short stroker is still LEGAL <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thumbsup:' /> <br />
    I think a "line" needs to be drawn as gamers like ME will push for every advantage if it is not spelled out to us.<br />
    Now I await to see , as DD asked --- how many are affected by the propossed ModSquad.<br />
    Respectfully --- Bird <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/innocent.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':innocent:' /> or <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/devil.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':devil:' />

    Don't see any of these changes affecting either the Lt. or I. I know I will never win any category. I just want to feel that I can compete without having to spend thousands on each gun to slick them up just to do so. If there are those that want to spend the big bucks and slick them up way beyond what was ever possible in the 1800's, then that would be fine but I suggest they have their own category. Anyway, I read all ofthe proposed changes and couldn't even understand half of them......... <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />
  • Well I guess I stand with Muddy on this one 'I read the rules and have no idea what they also in what they were talking about (for the most part)God I can't even keep my words straight.I just want to shoot cowboy and have fun.I don't do any thing to my guns except keep them out of the mud.So put my vote Yes-no, what ever the majority wants? <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wacko:' /> <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':blink:' /> <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />
  • I would love to know how they affect my guns, but I haven't a clue. I know my Bisley's are okay. I have a Coyote Cap Full Race 97, and Cody Conagher and Floyd both had a hand in my 73 ... or is it a 66? Therein lies my dilemma.<br />

  • I am with THE Muddy Gap Shootist, Push the button Wyatt and Calamity Nan on these proposals.<br />
    <br />
    I do not understand to much of the terminology but if someone wants to make changes they should do it and compete in a different category, like modern.<br />
    <br />
    Short stroke no short stroke my... Our life do not depend on how fast you fire your rifle. This is a game... a good one if I may say so.<br />
    I love it and the less we spend to be like Joe, the next guy, the more will shoot and enjoy shooting.<br />
    <br />
    In regards to my guns.... you got it. Mine are legal...but wait a minute I have (whisper mode) one firing pin in my Marlin. Hope that is legal.<br />
    <br />
    Vote YES.
  • Well what to say. The reason I started Cowboy was my wife and I thought it looked like fun. I have had a chance to take my grandsons and they like it a lot. We have meet some very nice folks at Bristol last year and are looking forward to making new friends this year. I am having a rifle modified and it is still in the shop. Dont even have it as yet, takes quite a spell to get the work done and is expensive. Its was totaly optional to do or not to do. Really just wanted better rifle and make it easer for the kidds. Wasn't planning on winning all the prizes. I know you need rules but changing them now could make good folks not want to play the game. I thought having fun was the name of the game and having good friends to share the time with. That my thought, I would vote no on this proposel. GPASIX

    After quite a bit of review and even checking my toys to find that they are not affected either I will still say no as well. NOW however when they come up with a list of replacement body parts for those of you that already have 3/4 race bodies or are working on them at very least (you titanium guys know who you are) beware, because I will probably vote yes to make a special titanium class. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thumbsup:' />

    Wolf, I thing that some really huge electric magnets on each stage would slow the "six-million dollar" men up with a simple flick of the switch. How about that, huh? 'Course we would need power hook-up at the range and that might be a bit difficult to arrange. Oh, well, just a thought. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />
  • I voted yes on the proposal. The only mods I've ever made were springs, stoning here and there, and a new one piece firing pin for my Marlin cause I broke 2 of the old 2 piece pins. Big Grit

Other than that, ........... life is good!
  • AS for my guns, none of this effects me in the slightest.<br />
    <br />
    Yet that is not realy the point. It's not how it effects me, or you, it's how it effects others that is most important. Go to the SASS wire on any given day, and there will be a post or two about getting more women, or younger shooters into our sport. In all reality, that is the real future of the game.<br />
    <br />
    The question here, is does this document effect them, and those to come who are like them. I believe the answer is yes, it does. Many here have not heard the squabling over this issue, but believe me there has been plenty of it. There is a small, powerful group who want to also outlaw the pulling of four shot-gun shells at one time. This, and only this is why the 20 gauge 97's are now being outlawed. It sure won't change the ability of many, many good shooters who can already pull four using a 12 gauge. Nor does it level anything, except a penelity on our shorter, or smaller shooters.<br />
    <br />
    If you really study these new conditions, you'll see that they really don't outlaw anything of concequence, with the only exceptions being the Lightning Rod, and 97's in 20 gauge. (You will notice how ever that they still allow 20 gauge in SxS. One fact, not stated is the change they made, mid stream, when Cody Conager complained that the first proposed short stroke distance was going to make there company EAT over $20,000 in equipment that would become illegal.<br />
    <br />
    What about the Thousands of dollars spent in good faith by shooters, under the rules as they existed, for things like 20 gauge 97's or Lightning Rods?<br />
    <br />
    If it's good for the goose, it's good for the gander.
  • Hello Tex,<br />
    From what I have just read on the SASS Wire --- even if the new proposed Mods are NOT VOTED IN -- the Lightning Rod , non-Win. type 97s,and any 20ga pump shotguns will be banned/ made illeagle anyway. Can you find out and tells us if this is true ??<br />
    Thanks --- Bird

    Sure like to know where all this misinformation is coming from. The folks on the TG wire are chuckling over all the stuff floating around the SASS wire. Seems like there is always someone who has talked to "someone in the know" who knows someone, etc. etc.

    The committee DID NOT ban the lightning rod. That was done by the Wild Bunch, just like the Shotgun ban. It was included in the covenant for convenience to get it out sooner to the membership. If the vote fails the Lightning rod and the shotgun ban will still be in effect. No reason the vote no on the covenant for those issues. They are DONE, OVER, etc. which part of ALREADY settled don't you understand. The TG's and committee can't do anything about those issues. <br />

    Hey JB,<br />
    <br />
    I know you're not making it up, I've read the SASS wire and the TG wire. I know what is being said out there. I just question how accurate it is. Some of it is probably true and some of it is obviously BS. Exactly which is which is a question we'll have to wait on.<br />
    <br />
    When things have caused a ruckus on the SASS wire before, there was always a bunch of "respected" opinions that never panned out. As to the post you have above, it wouldn't surprise me to true. The Wild Bunch usually gets what they want and maybe rightfully so. After all, it is their game. <br />
    <br />
    My point is simply that regardless of all the rumors, we have a proposed set of modification rules which we are to vote on as they are presented to us. It is said that we should never watch sausage or politics being made, because we would be sickened by the process. How the new rules were hammered out and who said what to whomever is beside the point. Right now we have the rules to vote on - good or bad. Let's give an honest and fair read of them and make an informed vote. Your votes will determine how I submit the club's vote - majority rules! <br />
    <br />
    Thanks and take care,
  • I thought I knew how I wanted to vote, I've read the proposed changes, and I've voted. I've also changed my mind twice. I don't think any of the rules affect me, but I might win the Lottery and decide something wild should be purchased, but then I've changed my mind again about that too. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':blush:' />
  • Well I voted .Now I hope some of my pards don't want to string me up,but after going over all the coments I voted No.Hey were are you going with that rope? <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon8.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':sickup:' />
  • Howdy Bird,<br />
    <br />
    Like Denny already said, there is tons of pot stiring on the wire right now,most of the rumors are unfounded.<br />
    <br />
    As to the banning part, yes, either ther Wild Bunch, or some portion there of banned the Lightning Rod. The Shot gun they talk of is not the 20 gauge 97 however, but the Marlin pump, made origionally in 1898 if I remember correctly.<br />
    <br />
    The reason it is now banned is Marlin came out with a statement declairing it Unsafe. Therefor, for reasons of litagation, SASS has banned it's use. MY understanding of this is that the bolt, on some of the first line productions, can fly backward into the shooters face, making the gun leathal to the person shooting it. In later models the problem was solved, BUT, how, at a shoot do you know which one is being shot?<br />
    <br />
    Therefor, they are now illegal.
