Mission

This is an attempt to set in print some things that may be of interest to the posse. There is no set publishing schedule, but it will come out from time to time as a means of communicating with everyone more or less as a posse paper ought. While much of this may be elsewhere on the web, it is hoped that finding info in one place might make it easier for posse members to be informed.
Shooting

Needless to say, we are all interested in restarting shooting. Nothing makes a day like breaking caps, especially in old western guns. To try to accommodate our habit as best we can, we have scheduled our first match for April, approximately 69 days, 17 hours, 31minutes, and 36 seconds at the time we are writing this. However, there are caveats to this schedule namely weather. It is distinctly possible that it will be too wet to be able to hold the shoot, as we would like. So cross your fingers and hope a lot and keep checking the website for more information as the time gets closer.
Range Improvements

Our success last year is nothing short of phenomenal. In a mere 6 weeks we went from a wispy idea to a functioning range holding its first shoot. All yall (to borrow from our Safety Officer) have been a tremendous source of support, physical help, and encouragement. Still, ranges arent static. They change over time, requiring regular maintenance, improvement, and so forth. This calls for that good old-fashioned product that Butch Cassidy and his bunch sought so energetically cash. Now, we dont have the option of holding up the local 209, so we need to look elsewhere for support. We arent a group that charges dues, or yearly fees, so we need doses of that good old American West Spirit goodwill. To help us in this, we are setting up a couple programs.

First, we will have a contribution jar labeled Range Improvement Fund. We hope that you will find some loose dollars, or fives that you would be willing to toss in there from time to time, with the understanding that all these monies will be spent on things that improve the range directly. We simply look to your innate generosity to support this effort.

Second, we are building new loading/reloading tables, at a cost of $84 per table. These will be solid wood (treated) tables, with no screw heads sticking up on the table top to possibly mar that neat firearm finish, and able to hold weapons sturdily. To help us in this effort, we are establishing an Adopt a Table program. Those of you who can group together to collect the money for a table will have the privilege of having the table labeled with your group name, or your individual names, or whatever other manner you would wish, always keeping within the boundaries of good taste. To show the way, the Rough Riders have adopted the first table. We hope others will follow our example.

Rules, Rules, Rules, ad Infinitum

We all live with rules. There are rules of the road, rules of etiquette, modesty rules, budget rules, and so on. Except for Gods Rules, they are all ways we try to help us find collective sanity in a world other wise chaotic. In this sport that we love, Cowboy Shooting, there are Range Rules.

Youve all heard them. Every shoot we start with a safety meeting, wherein we reiterate that all SASS rules apply. Dont do this, DO do this, Dont do that. It goes on and on. Many of us have been to many matches and have heard the same recital over and over. When the Safety Officer starts out, our eyes kind of glaze over and some begin to contemplate the projects waiting at home, the latest office politics, or whatever. It is unfortunately only human nature.

Still, in as much as we move about with live ammo, step to the line with loaded guns, pull pistols from holsters, shoot and reholster, grab rifles and shotguns and then blast targets, all in as little time as we can muster, there are obvious dangers inherent in what we do. So we have rules to try to manage this risk to minimize the danger of our otherwise truly fun sport.

We would like to try to change that some. We would like to shorten the safety meeting, to include mostly pertinent information for that shoot, with a few brief reminders. Keep your interest from wandering. We also plan on posting in several places about the range, laminated rules, so that you can, at your leisure, contemplate these from time to time, to refresh your memory about them. We must abide by these rules. We dont necessarily need to beat you about the head and shoulders with them every shoot, but conversely, we do expect you to be responsible and review them on your own honour from time to time.

And Lastly.

We will continue to have toilet paper available in the house beside the house.
Comments
A great idea to have our own little newspaper.
We can mail articles and insights about our sport. Maybe even a little corner about gun smithing and by that I mean cleaning, taking apart, replacing a spring or something like that. I am not expecting a how to make your own gun type of article. Something KISS.

Good news about the range. Hope we will start shooting soon but not before April 17, (I'm just kidding....or do I? <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/innocent.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> )
On behalf of the GGP let me say thank you. Your support is very much appreciated. It's cowboy shooters like you, that makes this club one of the best in the mid-west.
