That's a wrap! Thanks for a great season. See you all next year!

We should be shooting 2nd Saturday and 4th Sunday again next year.

Final schedule to be finalized in February.

Need some comment from the Posse...

At the next SASS Convention in Vegas the following agenda will be addressed. While I am not able to go to Vegas I will pass on the Posse's comments and opinions ragarding the agenda. So please make your comments to what they have been kicking around at many of the other summits leading up to the vote at Vegas. Thanks in advance for your comments (I think...?).

TERRITORIAL GOVERNOR SUMMIT AGENDA

1. Should we combine the Traditional and Modern categories and then split this combination
into two age-based categories, with the age breaks being at 17 and up / 36 and up? This would
give us age-based categories for all ages. All age based categories would allow the use of all
SASS legal firearms, propellants and shooting styles except Gunfighter.

2. Should we allow the use of the Gunfighter shooting style in all age-based categories except
the Buckaroo and Junior categories?

3. Should we replace the line Outlawed - Clothing displaying manufacturers or sponsors
logos with The displaying of sponsors or team logos on apparel or equipment is prohibited.
Manufacturers labels on such apparel or ?

4. Stage Conventions Item #3 requires all long guns staged horizontally shall be staged lying
flat where at least the rear of the trigger guard is on the staging area. Should this also be applied
to handguns?

5. Should we clarify the costuming requirements as follows? ALL Clothing MUST BE worn
appropriately, how it was intended and how it would have been worn in the OLD WEST or as
seen on B-Western movies and Television. Clothing that is clearly NOT in the spirit of the Old
West or in good taste is NOT allowed.

6. Should we allow a shooter to retrieve a dropped round? The current rule actually assumes
that a safety rule could potentially occur when retrieving dropped rounds. We have rules in
place that address safety issues when they occur.

7. Should we change the verbiage about de-cocking a firearm from - De-cocking a revolver,
rifle, or external hammer shotgun may not be done with a live round under the hammer. Decocking
may not be done to avoid a penalty if cocked at the wrong time or position. to - NO
gun may be de-cocked on the firing line except by pointing it down-range and pulling the trigger
or while under the direct supervision of a stage officer.

8. Should we change the rule regarding empties left on the carrier or in the chamber of a long
gun? A live round in the chamber would continue to carry a Stage Disqualification penalty and
a live round on the carrier a 10-second minor safety. This change would eliminate all penalties
for empty rounds in the chamber or on the carrier of long guns only.

9. Should we allow gunfighters to carry revolvers in the butt forward manner? We have rules
in place that address safety issues when they occur.

10. Should we allow ejectors on single shot shotguns?

11. Should we add the following verbiage to address aerial shotgun targets for Buckaroos and
Buckarettes? Buckaroos and Buckarettes must shoot at (engage) all aerial shotgun targets unless
alternate targets are provided. Aerial targets will be scored as hit if fired at before the
target impacts the ground. Targets that hit the ground before being fired at will be scored as a
miss.

On number three they're talking about the exception of the labels you see like "Wahmaker", "Scully", etc. On number five it seems that at EOT they had someone wearing his holsters below his hips like you see some of our "Urban Friends" wearing their pants these days (next you'll see the sights being put on the side of the barrel instead of the top). Any further clarification ask here with your comments.
1. Should we combine the Traditional and Modern categories and then split this combination
give us age-based categories for all ages. All age based categories would allow the use of all
SASS legal firearms, propellants and shooting styles except Gunfighter. Yes, as long as there will be a Senior Gunfighter class also; why should gunfighters be discriminated against age-wise?

2. Should we allow the use of the Gunfighter shooting style in all age-based categories except
the Buckaroo and Junior categories? No.

3. Should we replace the line Outlawed - Clothing displaying manufacturers or sponsors
logos with The displaying of sponsors or team logos on apparel or equipment is prohibited.
Manufacturers labels on such apparel or equipment are acceptable.? Sure, yes. Who cares? The labels that I have seen are pretty unobtrusive.

4. Stage Conventions Item #3 requires all long guns staged horizontally shall be staged lying
flat where at least the rear of the trigger guard is on the staging area. Should this also be applied
to handguns? No. I feel that the whole pistol should be on the staging area. If not, you would have folks trying to balance the pistols on the edges of props and I feel that would be asking for a loaded pistol to be knocked down.

5. Should we clarify the costuming requirements as follows? ALL Clothing MUST BE worn
seen on B-Western movies and Television. Clothing that is clearly NOT in the spirit of the Old
West or in good taste is NOT allowed. Yes. Some people should take a look at themselves in a mirror before they venture outdoors in some of their costumes.
6. Should we allow a shooter to retrieve a dropped round? The current rule actually assumes
that a safety rule could potentially occur when retrieving dropped rounds. We have rules in
place that address safety issues when they occur. No. Not during the actual shooting of the stage. Picking up a round off of a prop (such as a shotgun shell) after finishing shooting a stage, before going to the unloading table, should be allowed if it is an easy grab. (No bending over or stooping to the ground)

7. Should we change the verbiage about de-cocking a firearm from - De-cocking a revolver,
rifle, or external hammer shotgun may not be done with a live round under the hammer. Decocking
may not be done to avoid a penalty if cocked at the wrong time or position. to - NO
MY biggest problem is with 6. ?Why is it that we are not allowed to pick up rounds that we may have dropped on the ground, as long as we maintain safe direction of the weapons.

Number eight would eliminate any penalty for an MT round on the carrier and a equipment malfuntion where the gun does not eject/take the MT out of the chamber would not be penalized anyway if I understand things properly. Gun would be moved to unloading table by one of the posse or TO at the end of stage to be dealt with. If it was at the end of the string of shooting the gun I would think you would allow the shooter to finish the stage, if not at the end of the string of shots, misses could be awarded or a reshoot given depending on the size of the match. The way we always handle the equipment malfunction. Again, if I understand your question correctly and thanks for the comments.

YES!

2. Should we allow the use of the Gunfighter shooting style in all age-based categories except
the Buckaroo and Junior categories? YES!

3. Should we replace the line Outlawed - Clothing displaying manufacturers or sponsors
logos with The displaying of sponsors or team logos on apparel or equipment is prohibited.
Manufacturers labels on such apparel or equipment are acceptable.? YES!

4. Stage Conventions Item #3 requires all long guns staged horizontally shall be staged lying
flat where at least the rear of the trigger guard is on the staging area. Should this also be applied
to handguns? NO!

YES! NOT ALLOWED!

6. Should we allow a shooter to retrieve a dropped round? The current rule actually assumes
that a safety rule could potentially occur when retrieving dropped rounds. We have rules in
place that address safety issues when they occur. NO, unless it falls on a prop where it was allowed to be staged by stage description.

NO. (I did not have time to look it up, isn't there a current rule/procedure that states that if you cock a gun at the wrong time, you may fire it down range, not at any target, re-holster/re-stage it safely, then at the proper time reload that round and engage your target on the clock????? Old timers, can't remember! I'll have to look it up.

YES!

9. Should we allow gunfighters to carry revolvers in the butt forward manner? We have rules
in place that address safety issues when they occur. Yes. Those of us that were around before gunfighter class were allowed to use a butt forward draw as long as it met all the safety requirements.

10. Should we allow ejectors on single shot shotguns? NO. You knew it when you chose it.

Targets that hit the ground before being fired at will be scored as a
miss. YES.

You asked and I will be glad to debate my opinions.
Let's see, over a hundred posse members and SEVEN replies. Yeah, that's about right.

While I can't afford to go to Vegas for the convention I will be giving my proxy to vote to another TG around Thanksgiving. If the posse is happy with the response that's the way I'll vote it, but numbers 1, 6, and 7 seem to be close to undecided.

    Dear TG:

I REALLY appreciate all you work for the posse. Don't think for a moment that the low responses to the posse are anything more then the peeps are busy and may or may-not feel qualified to answer the questions.

To wit, fore-wit and thus-wit(!)..... here are my vote's:

1. This is TWO question's: A) re Traditional Vs Modern weapons and B) age categories...

A) YES: Combine them... we shoot at short ranges and short times... the revolver is
secondary to the skill of the shooter. [Have you seen my &%$# scores? haha].

B) NO: We have too many age categories now. I suggest they be condensed, not expanded.

2. Yes.

3. Yes.

4. No comment. (I am too new to the sport to vote intelligently on this issue).
Jim, what do you mean by tally and comments?
Did you send in both sides of the voting: yeses and nos?
Will this be like the elections: "the world is coming to an end because Bush won with only 51% of the vote" versus "Mr. Wonderful Barak solidified the country with an overwhelming percentage in the election by carrying just over 52% of the vote"?
I'm just wondering if all the results are tallied by the board of Territorial Governors or just the winning votes from each club. I'm hoping that all of the votes get tallied and the final count is what counts.
Just curious as to how this works.
  • jeweler jimjeweler jim Posse Whipping Boy
Okay, here's the way I understand it. The agenda items will be kicked around ad nauseum and then the TG's will vote on the "agenda items." The vote is really only a "informed suggestion or referendum" to the Wild Bunch as they have the final and only say regarding how things are to be set up or what the "rules" are. There are probably a few additional items that will be discussed and given to the TG's to take back to their clubs for further discussion and perhaps a vote next time.

That being said, I believe that if all or most of the TG's said that a rule should be a certain way the Wild Bunch would probably go with it as suggested. By the same token, if the TG's told them to do something, they still have the power to do what they please and have the power to change or reject anything they want.

"Tally and comments" = a tally of the votes of those that responded and the verbal response by a couple more of the posse that didn't respond on the forum. I ended up with a total of fourteen responses here and by verbal input from posse members. As I said earlier, over two hundred registered for the web site and over one hundred ten members who could actually vote and I got FOURTEEN counting myself. The TG that I gave my proxy to will vote it just as I passed it on to him and that's as a "yes or no" on all eleven issues. Not a tally of how many votes for each yes and no that will be totaled up together. The TG's present from each club will vote their club's input regarding yes or no and not as so many yes's or so many no's. If they wanted an actual tally of all the members without the discussion among all the TG's they could have sent out ballots to the members with the Chronicle. So if there are three hundred clubs represented you could have three hundred yes's or no's or any combination there of. Supposedly an informed decision or referendum.

I hope that explains or answers your questions. If not whatever I haven't explained clearly, ask again. Again, as this is a referendum the Wild Bunch calls the tune.

Thanks Jim; I kinda thought that's how the process went but, like so many things, I wasn't sure.
