Looking to buy a new digital camera. Price 150-300.<br />
<br />
Want good pictures and video (so I can take a video of Ugly shooting gunfighter and try to discover his secrets.)<br />
<br />
Any ideas? I'm between Nikon and Canon. <br />
I was reading bad articles about canon's service in Elk Grove. So I'm a little on the Nikon side.<br />

Open to suggestions.<br />

The answer is going to be like who makes the best pistols or rifles. I Have 3 NIkons and swear by them I used to use Cannon, but I saw the light and switched to Nikon. I know you will probable get some argument about that. I have a D70 and D300 and have had no trouble with them I also have a Nikon coolpix L5 which is a great little point and shoot.<br />

I have been using canons for years and like them. The differences between canon and nikon are more in the way use use them than in the quality of the photos, as both have excellent quality. I'd suggest you check both the canon and nikons and see which one has the features you want and would work best for you.

I am looking for Canon SD 790 or SD 880. What is your opinion about those 2? Which one is worth buying?<br />

Never had any problems with the dozen or so Canons I've had in the past 10 years. I did have a lens that was recalled and promptly replaced with a new one. You might go to amazon.com and look them up to see how people have rated them as I have mainly DSLRs and only one point & shoot so I'm not familiar with those cameras you've listed.

On a few occasions DD has let me stroke his cameras. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':w00t:' /> But he is very limiting on how much I get to touch them. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cray.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cray:' /> Something about premature exposure on the pictures or something like that, but a couple of times the pictures of the stages were taken by yours truly. I have a Nikon Coolpix S210 that has been awesome for us as far as snapshots go. It also has a video feature and is an 8.0 MP. We got it for about $180 at Best Buy.<br />

The one point&shoot I have is an earlier model of that same camera. You'll find the IS (image stabilization) to be a real plus - I have IS on my DSLR lenses. If the features are what you are looking for, I think you'll find it to be a great camera. Don't know where you might plan on getting it, but this is where I buy most of my cameras and lenses. No sales tax either.
