That's a wrap! Thanks for a great season. See you all next year!

We should be shooting 2nd Saturday and 4th Sunday again next year.

Final schedule to be finalized in February.

Being New

The whole thing of belonging to SASS has peaked my interest but have questions.
Have been scouting out guns and such and have gotten different answers on whether you have to have 2 revolvers, the shotgun cant have ejectors , the rifle is pretty cut and dry but has to be the same caliber as the revolver.
Any comments are welcome and I take critisim well, usually
Thanks
• Papau, Don't know who you have all talked to, but your options for weapons are wide open. You wil need two revolvers in any caliber from .32 to .45., they do not have to match, they can be different sights, barrel length, calibers, or even 1 or 2 cap & ball revolvers. Rifles can be any pistol caliber from .25 t0 .45, or even a .56-.50 Spencer. Just about any lever action or pump (colt lightnig or clones) will work. Shotguns any double barrel with or without hammers will work as long as it has extractors, not ejectors. Any pump or lever action is legal if it has an external hammer. Hope this helps. Big Grit

    Requirements are:
1 BE SAFE!
2 HAVE FUN!

Yup, Two pistols are required, one rifle of pistol caliber and a shotgun.
Pistols and rifle do not have to be the same caliber. I shoot .45 Pistols and a .44-40 rifle. Shotgun can be a double, Winchester 97 or clone or Winchester 87 or clone or a single shot. The double has to have extractors, the singe barrel can have an ejector.
Here is the link to the SASS web site: http://www.sassnet.com/ Take a look around there. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cowboy1.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cowboy1:' />
I think this will link you to the Shooters Handbook. This will give you a lot of information on the sport.
This is from the shooters hand book on page 9 & 10.
RIFLE CALIBERS
Must be centerfire of at least .32 caliber and not larger than .45 caliber.
Must be in a caliber commonly available in revolvers. Examples include, but are not limited
to, .32-20, .32 Magnum, .357 Magnum, .38 Special, .38-40, .44-40, .44 Special, .44
Magnum, and .45 Colt. The only allowed exceptions are the .25-20 and .56-50. No rifle
calibers such as .30-30 or .38-55 are allowed.
Buckaroo/Buckarette Category competitors choosing to utilize 22 caliber firearms must use
standard velocity .22 caliber rimfire ammunition only.
I hope this answers some of your questions. You will have to come out the the Dry Gulch and try it out. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yahoo.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':yahoo:' />
There are power requirements for the ammunition. It must meet a minimum power (this is to regulate hand-loaders from making loads too light, and possibly getting very slow bullets stuck in barrels) and not exceed a maximum power (too fast loads can cause dangerous ricochets). The SASS manual explains it pretty well. You can use Magnum-caliber pistols and rifles, the ammo just needs to be toned down to "cowboy magnum". I bought some Ultramax brand .44 Magnum cowboy ammo last season when dealers were out of .44 special ammo. Their cowboy .44 magnum ammo is rated at 750fps as opposed to their .44 special ammo which is rated at 750fps. http://www.ultramaxammunition.com/cowboy.php Hardly Dirty Harry speed ammo.
Keep asking any questions that come to mind. I shoot at the Dry Gulch Ranch on Sundays when I wake up early enough to get down there. I'm the ugly middle-aged fat guy wearing 2 six-guns so I'm easy to pick out of the crowd. Just step up and introduce yourself. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/gunfighter.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':gunfighter:' />
I hate to dispute what Grit said, but the Wild Bunch (The governing body of SASS) has stated that the only external hammer pump shotgun permitted at SASS sanctioned shoots is the Winchester model 1897 (97's) or their clones. Now, that being said, any new comer to a local shoot should be and usually is given a lot of leeway in their equipment. I just thought I would throw this out there before any new purchases are made.

Look forward to meeting you at one of our shoots.
