Hi Guys,

Here is an offer No one can refuse:

Show Blank Brass that still goes BOOM!

The Midwest Rangers Mounted Shooting club that was one of the earliest clubs to work in the sport. The ammo we used is a 45 LC black powder blank to shoot balloons. The effective range is 10 to not more than 20. This is the load that was used for many shows and re-enactments.

When we first started, the load recipe was variable but its kinda like, prime the case, fill it with black powder, put a wad in it, seal it with Elmers glue, let it dry, fire it, wash it, dry it and do it again. There are other more creative recipes like duplex loads and different grades of black powder. We never measured it but the loads didnt seem to develop enough pressure to fireform the brass. There is not enough energy developed to cycle a rifle so these were just pistol loads.

When we first started we used regular 45 LC brass from a variety of brand name suppliers we drilled out the primer pocket slightly. We later started buying brass from Starline that is actually slightly modified for use as a blank round. It has a a Starline head stamp with a double star and says 45LC Blank. They worked very well and I believe they continue to be used in the field by some of CMSA reloaders. Here is a link to the ammo suppliers page of the CMSA http://www.cmsaevents.com/certifiedblankproviders.cfm

You can also see that they are now using some one-shot crimped cases that are not reusable.

Can they be used for regular 45 LC lead rounds? Do you feel lucky?
