"When a government has ceased to protect the lives, liberty and property of the people, from whom its legitimate powers are derived...[it is] the inherent and inalienable right of the people to...abolish such government, and create another in its stead..."
I heard about this secession movement on WGN radio:

http://www.texassecede.com/

They have an online petition at:
https://petitions.wh...rnment/BmdWCP8B

So far they have over 93,000 signatures, a lot of them outside of Texas.

They are selling bumper stickers for $2.00 cash and a S.A.S.E. at:
http://www.texassecede.com/buy.htm

I signed the petition (it required signing up for a whitehouse.gov account - but I figure I'm already on a couple of Federal
sekret dissident lists), and am going to buy a bumper stick to support the idea that people are considering disenfranchising the Federal Government.
Davy Crockett had the right attitude about Washington politics:
Hopefully, they would have a sane one, i.e., how many additional Texans can the infrastructure support, and, "As an immigrant, what abilities, talents, and/or useful material wealth can you contribute to the nation of Texas to justify your admission?"

There is an interesting statement on page 2 of this article:
http://dailycaller.com/2012/11/13/secession-yall-why-texas-can-pull-it-off

"Still, all of this leads us back to a legal question: Can they do it? Texas lore claims that the permission to secede is woven into the state’s founding documents. Well, yes and no. The Texas Annexation Agreement of 1845 does say that the state has the right to split into as many as five separate states should it so choose — wouldn’t that make Harry Reid’s head spin?"

If Texas got ticked off enough, they could do a 5 for 1 split and have 10 senators instead of 2. That would upset the balance of power in the Senate. They have 23 Republican and 9 Democrat, but that total, determined by population, would be split amongst the 5 new states.

Has Illinois ever considered seceding from Chicago? <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
