That's a wrap! Thanks for a great season. See you all next year!

We should be shooting 2nd Saturday and 4th Sunday again next year.

Final schedule to be finalized in February.

Buying ammo and components...

I recently told my daughter to stop and pick up a brick or two of 22LR to replace what we used in the last match on the "Buckaroo Stage." She couldn't find any on the way home from work at Farm & Fleet so I was at the courthouse in Woodstock earlier today and found some at Walmart on the way home. I bought all they had left, but no "bricks" only the fifty round little boxes (22 of them).<br />
<br />
Anybody tried to buy primers, ammo or powder? Luckily I bought components last fall before the election. So I got the reloading components that I might need for immediate loading as required for next season. But everywhere I've looked for ammo or components (especially primers) the shelves are bare. Also heard some nasty pricing on what has been found. Feel lucky to have what I got.<br />
<br />
Appreciate any comments from the posse about any of your recent experiences. We've got two gun shows coming up locally and betting that it will be a zoo.<br />

Off until Jan. 2nd and really not sure <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':unsure:' /> what this feeling is not going into the shop <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/brap.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':brap:' />

    I bought primers last week from Lucian at Standard Bullet. His prices were the same as always and he had what I wanted with no problem. (1000 LP and 1000 SP Winchester). That leaves me with 10,000 primers in my shop so that should hold me until the $h!+ gets cleaned off the fan.

    I bought a 250 rd box of .40 S&W to do some target shooting with in Missouri at my brother's place. Gander Mountain in Janesville was well-stocked then. I picked up the last 250 rd box of .40 S&W at the Walmart in Ozark, Missouri, to do some target shooting at my sister's place. It was a different brand and a few dollars cheaper than the box at Gander Mountain was. Their shelves weren't picked bare then.<br />

    The gun shows should tell the tale and as i've been called back to the shop three times so far we decided to take off until the 7th.

    It's been quite some time since I' e bought primers. What's a good price for them these days? I don't really recall seeing them for what was a good deal at a gun show anyway. <br />

  • Primers at the Pecatonica show this past show went from $25-$38.00 per 1000. I got 2 boxes at $25. I should have enuff primers to last me a lifetime now. Went to Cabela's today in Hoffman Estates. There was a line of close to 30 people waiting to fill paperwork to purchase guns. Many empty spots on the handgun shelves. Couldn't hardly move around the firearm area, so many folks there. Got myself a couple boxes of Lasercast 405 Grn FP for my 45-70 and a couple Lee Factory crimp dies. Didn't appear to be any shortage of ammo on the shelves.

    Talked with some that have been to the last couple of gun shows and it was suggested that it was a zoo. Regular pistol primers not to be found and only shotgun and limited rifle and mag pistol in short supply. The mags can be used for general purpose loading, but went up to the Darien Gun club with Whiskey River Mike and he took the last of their small pistol primers (Federal to boot). Sometimes even the blind squirrel finds a nut in the forest. <br />

    I loaded up on all my components right before election and glad I did.

    Heard the military is using up all the primers.

    Went to the Kane County Gun Show today (early) and while it was still pretty crowded there was most of what you might have wanted. The shortage of goods was not what I saw, but I surely wouldn't have paid the prices that were being asked. <br />
    <br />
    Might be time to revalue my toys if what I saw for prices today comes even close to reality. I keep an inventory sheet with serial numbers and approximate value in case I get hit by a bus or something so the wife will have some idea of what the stuff is worth.

    I went to the gun show at the Jefferson County, WI, Fairgrounds Saturday. There were plenty of AR-15 style firearms, Kalashnikov's, Mini-14s, even WWII M1s and M1 carbines. There were cowboy guns there as well, including a Browning .44mag lever-action I wish I had the cash for. I saw a lot of hand guns, including more single and double-action revolvers than I expected. I recall seeing a side-by-side double barrel cap-and-ball derringer that would make a great suspender gun for black powder shooters. There were several "private collection" signs on tables, and not too many semi-junk (replica cat-house tokens), junk (toy wooden alligators), and off-topic (coins) tables.<br />
    <br />
    The place was busy at 2:00 pm, but not over-crowded or panicky last chance to buy something busy. Things were pricy. The shaved prime rib sandwich was tasty, <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thumbsup:' /> the kitchen and vending machines only had P*psi products <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thumbdown:' />, and admission was $7 for the day or $10 for the weekend.<br />
    <br />
    I could have spent a year's salary filling out a good chunk of my wish list there - a well-rounded gun show.<br />
