In response to Obama's debate comments in October, I drove over to my favorite gun store, Dam Road Gun Shop http://damroadgunshop.net/ and ordered a Glock. I, and - to judge from the handgun boxes stacked on the counters that day - dozens of other people, were crowding out the typical late October deer-hunting customers in our quest to beat a renewed high-capacity gun ban back then. On January 6th, the day after the Rock County Sheriff closed down the gun show in Evansville http://www.gazettext...other-gun-show/ , I returned to the Dam Road Shop and due to the comments made by Obama and his ilk after the Newtown, Connecticut mental illness tragedy, found the store so crowded that their parking lot was full and people were parking in the field across the road.
I'm wondering how many people have made the decision since Obama got elected to leave the socialist state of Nannyville and come over to the self-reliant side of the 2nd Amendment fence. I hope at least some of the buyers who have made guns, ammo, and components scarce and expensive since the 2008 Presidential election are transferees from socialist America, or at least have left the sidelines to join our side. Once you've done the state or Federal paperwork to purchase a firearm (or in Illinois, obtained a FOID card to buy a box of .22 shells), the government knows who and where you are, so if you've been quiet in the past, now is the time to start speaking up in favor of retaining your right to keep and bear arms. For those trying to disarm you, there is no such thing as reasonable and prudent gun control. It's like "being a little bit pregnant". They want to take all of your guns, forever. It's time to speak out. Write in blogs, talk to friends, neighbors, acquaintances, and co-workers. Contact your elected officials and tell them to protect, not abrogate, not amend, not restrict, not deny, your right to keep and bear arms.

One of the most effective-sounding tactics I've read about is based on the truism that "money talks, bullshit walks". When Wisconsin first got our concealed carry license, some businesses started posting "No concealed carry allowed" signs. Someone suggested that rather than voicing a threat of boycott to the local manager of a chain (who usually has no choice in the matter) or business owner that is basing his/her banning decision on feelings or the recommendation of their insurer, that you visit a non-banning competitor, make a purchase, and send a copy of the receipt to the owner or upper management of the business that prohibits concealed carry, along with a polite message that their anti-gun decision has influenced your purchasing decision.

That strategy should be employed with politicians as well. If your elected representatives happen to be pro-gun, support them. If not, send in a check or money order to their opponents along with a message why you are supporting them, and send copies of those payments and messages to the anti-gun politicians showing them that their nonsense is costing them dollars and sense.
P.S.
Nervous Nellies who advocate asking President Obama to wave his magic wand and make all the bad assault rifles disappear may take comfort in the fact that my latest firearm purchase wasn't a nasty military-style AR-15 rifle. My newest gun won't even hold ten rounds when fully loaded. Nope, my last firearm purchase was a small handgun that easily slips into my pants pocket.

Pleasant dreams, HCI.

So it would seem that most stuff is still out there with the exception of reloading components. Glad I stocked up right before the election.
