That's a wrap! Thanks for a great season. See you all next year!

We should be shooting 2nd Saturday and 4th Sunday again next year.

Final schedule to be finalized in February.

CCW Instructor

Just saw it posted on the Illinois State Police website that I have been approved as an Illinois CCW Instructor. Saguaro Kid should be approved shortly as he sent in his stuff a few days after I did.

I don't know where this will lead as there is much more to be done and there are still many unanswered questions. But I'll try to keep you posted as things develop.

  • Question! If someone has been in a shooting venue for several years, how would that affect CCW certification requirments?
  • dddd Gnome, gnome on the range!
That is one of those big unanswered questions. But at the present time the only waiver for the 16 hours of training is for x-military who are given 8 hours credit but it doesn't say what portion of the required training is waived.

I know how much firearms training I got in the military and it wasn't much. Most any of our cowboy shooters would have far greater knowledge and experience than many who are x-military. But I'm afraid that at this point, you would have to sit through classes aimed at the very inexperienced shooter.

Things may change going forward as there are a multitude of areas that need to be defined. On the other hand, don't hold your breath!
  • Thanks for your insight.

I guess the term "I'm from the Government and I'm here to help" is still true!!

Ex-military? If I enlist in the GAF Sunday at the shoot and then resign my commission a week later, would I qualify for the 8 hour waiver? <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

When I got my WI CCW permit, the state accepted my 1969 Hunter Safety Certificate as proof of firearms training.

I also did the Utah non-resident CCW course and have that permit, so if you'd like to salt your first class with an experienced student, keep me in mind.
Two cents worth---I completed a 4 hour course for a Miami conceal carry and was informed and not sure if what I'm told is accurate that it would not apply if I wanted to get a CCW from Ill. Congratulations on being accepted.

Thanks Tooth! Just got my first job offer this morning. We'll see where it goes. But as to your concerns, ditto what I said to Rio Jack above. Sorry, but you know Illinois.

Save me a spot in your first class.
  • Snidely WhiplashSnidely Whiplash A legend in his own mind.
Look at the bright side, Longtooth. There will be at least 4 hours of the Illinois class which you can nap through.

I kind of doubt the other 12 hours will all be range training. I shudder to think of what type of anti-gun libtard Chicago/Cook County agitprop drivel politically correct social instruction might be tossed into the extra classroom hours. That's why we need an instructor we know and trust. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Well from what I'm reading and that's up for debate. We all will have lots of company in our car. Seems that's the only place you'll be able to carry.

Look at the bright side. Car jacking will probably decrease.

As an old buddy of mine once said, "It's a start". Hopefully, we will be able to whittle away at all the bullshit going forward.

Well, let's see..... On Target is charging $300 for the class. Cowboys would try to talk me down to $295 so I'll have to start at $400.

Just kidding!

Once I checked into it, I found the job offer was from a pretty tacky operation that didn't know a pistol from a horse's patoot. They were just trying to climb on to the money wagon so I told them where to stick it.

Stay tuned....more to come.

OK, hot off the press! But don't get your hopes up too high as it needs a special approved curriculum and I'm not sure I'm going to do the work of developing one. One may turn up, we'll see.
Haven't shot my concealed or the pistol I show at the shop for quite a while and so I managed to get out and put a few down range this afternoon. Luckily if I have to use my "SKILLS" at the shop it will be at almost point blank range so what I did today tells me I should be okay if I don't panic under pressure and puke on my shoes instead of shooting the perp. Really quite amazed with what the little snub nose and the CZ clone are capable of doing. Far better guns than I'll ever be able to shoot to their capabilities.
