327 denied concealed carry licenses because of poor training<br />

Illinois State Police have denied licenses to carry concealed firearms to 327 students who received inadequate training from a firearms instructor from Bolingbrook, police announced today.<br />
<br />
That brings to 13 the number of instructors who’ve had their certification revoked to teach concealed carry classes, and 425 students who had their concealed carry applications denied based on not getting enough training.<br />
<br />
The state law allowing people to carry concealed weapons in public, which took effect this year, generally requires at least 16 hours of training to get a license. State police have received “numerous” complaints from the public that some instructors were awarding certificates to students who didn’t train the full 16 hours, police stated in a news release.<br />
<br />
After conducting interviews and reviewing records, police confirmed the training was inadequate, and referred the matter to the Will County State’s Attorney to see if sanctions are appropriate.<br />
<br />
The ISP is notifying the students that their training is invalid and their applications will be denied. The applicants will have the opportunity to get retrained without the $150 application fee, and may appeal the denial through the state police administrative review, police said.<br />

Police did not disclose the name of the instructor, but stated they will publish the names of the unapproved instructors on the state police web site.
